It is your responsibility to print approved plans and ensure they are available on-site during construction. 

Below is a list of additional permits typically needed for this type of application. Please apply for them separately when ready.

Add any contact that needs access to the online permit. Typically, this includes:

  • Architect of Record, if an architect is required by Chapter 18.08 RCW
  • Engineer of Record, if an engineer is required by Chapter 18.43 RCW
  • Contractor, if you would like them to schedule their own inspections

If applicable, please enter the Contractor Name or Contractor's License Number in the field below. 

Under Washington state and local law, all contractors doing work in the City of Edgewood are required to have:

• A Washington State Business License (to verify, visit the Washington State Department of Revenue website)
• A City of Edgewood Business License endorsement (listed under the "Endorsements" section of the WADOR page for the business)
• A Washington State Contractor's License (to verify, visit the Washington State Labor & Industries website)

If you cannot locate the contractor in our system or if the contractor is showing as "expired", please email the contractor license information to permit@edgewoodwa.gov.

If the property owner acting as the general contractor or completing the work themselves, an Owner as Contractor Affidavit is required to be submitted.

A valuation is required to process your permit application. 

• For new construction or additions, please enter the gross floor area (sq. ft.) of the building.
  • Select as many valuation types as needed for your proposed scope of work.
  • “Gross Floor Area” means the total area of all floors, measured from the exterior face, outside dimensions, or exterior column line of a building.
    • Include basements, cellars, and balconies
    • Exclude unexcavated areas
  • For structures without walls or columns, such as an open shed, the exterior wall of the open side or sides will be the edge of the roof. 
• For alterations or remodels, please enter the project valuation to the nearest whole dollar. The valuation must reflect the total fair market value of the work covered under the permit, including
  • Labor and materials;
  • The contractor’s overhead and profit;
  • All finish work, painting, roofing, electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, elevators, fire-extinguishing systems, or any other permanent work or permanent equipment. 

Upload Documents in PDF format. The name of each file should simply identify what each submittal document is. Example: "Construction Plans," "Engineered Structural Plans," "Site Plan."

Not uploading all required submittal documents will delay the processing of your permit.

The conditions listed below are standard for this type of application. This list will be updated to reflect your specific proposal before permit issuance.

The applicant / permittee / contractor is responsible for complying with all listed conditions.

Review fees must be paid before review will begin. An investigation fee will be charged for any work completed without permits.

Issuance fees, if any, are estimates until the date an application is issued. Impact fees are due at issuance.

The inspections listed below are standard for this type of application. This list will be updated to reflect your specific proposal before permit issuance.

The applicant / permittee / contractor is responsible for constructing consistent with the approved plans and applicable law.

INSTRUCTIONS

Inspections are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

• Inspection Type:
  • Inspections are listed in the order they need to be completed. Inspections requested out of order may be canceled or rescheduled.

• Comments: Please leave a contact name and phone number so the inspector may contact you, if necessary.
• Reinspection: The following situations are subject to a reinspection fee:
  • Approved construction plans are not printed and available on site;
  • Staff are unable to access the site, building, or structure;
  • Work is incomplete, not ready, or requested corrections have not been made;
  • Work is covered or concealed without inspection;
  • The work is not completed consistent with the approved plans and permit conditions. 

ALLOWED CONSTRUCTION DAYS AND HOURS

Construction activity is limited to the following:

• Monday - Friday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
• Saturday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
• Sunday: NO CONSTRUCTION
• City-Observed Holidays: NO CONSTRUCTION

INSPECTION RESULTS

• Summary: Run an Inspection Card Report using your permit number.
• Detailed Report: run an Inspection History Report using your permit number.

This section lists the typical review steps and status of your application.

What do the Status and Date Mean?

• A Pending status means that work has not started on the review step.
• A Routed status means that the application has been routed for processing or review.
• Approved or Approved with Conditions means that the reviewer has approved their portion of the review.
• Deficiency means that corrections are needed.
• The Date shows the last date an item was updated, not a due date.

Review Times

• Plumbing, mechanical, and residential re-roof applications are generally issued within one (1) week.
• We try to review all other new applications within eight (8) weeks and all resubmittals within six (6) weeks, depending on the complexity of the application. 
• The City has up to 14 days for most applications to determine if a resubmittal is adequate for review.
